Circular Citizens Research Project

Beyond Rules and Obligations: Exploring Citizen Motivations, Routes and Personal Strategies for Becoming Active in Circular Economy

Circular Citizens research project explores active citizens in circular economy to share inspirational stories of personal transformations and generate mutual learning that transcends the local contexts.
The project is conducted in three phases, each in collaboration with different groups of people.

Project timeline

2020 - 2021

PHASE 1

2021 - 2022

PHASE 2

2022 - 2023

PHASE 3

Phase 1 includes mapping out both St. Petersburgs and Finlands active citizens, influencers and movements aiming to promote and share ideas on everyday circular practices, such as waste prevention, reuse and recycling.

Phase 1 includes also interviewing these active citizens. The interviews can be read at Stories tab, and serve to educate, inspire and help to live in a more circular manner.

The second phase includes a large quantitative survey (n=1000) to Finnish residents regarding their experiences of waste prevention activities and their attitudes towards waste prevention. The interviews of the first phase informed the development of the survey.

Have a sneak peak to the survey results at the “Researchers posts”!

The third phase of the project delves to circular economy from the youths perspective. Circular economy workshops will be organized for secondary students, which include approaching circularity from the youths lives, and experimenting circularity in practice. The workshops emphasize societal approach to circular economy, and support youths´ active citizenship.
